This is a kome-bukuro ( rice bag ) made of pieces of silk crepe with katazome ( stencil-dyeing ), shibori ( tie-dyeing ) and hand-painting. Kome-bukuro was used when people exchanged rice or beans as a gift, or donated them to a shrine or a temple till early Showa period ( ca 1940s ). Meiji period ( 1868~1912 ) In good condition except for some small moth holes. 42.5cm x 30.5" 16.7" x 12"
