This is hagi-isho juban ( under kimono ) made of many kinds of pieces of cloth such as silk crepe, pongee silk, wool muslin, cotton flannel, figured silk satin and so on. The techniques are: tie-dyeing, katazome ( stencil-dyeing ), Yuzen-zome ( hand-painted using rice paste as resist ). The red wool muslin in the back as well as in the upper front has some moth holes, but in good condition as a whole. Late 19th century. 124cm x 134cm
