"Moche phase II head vessel. ca 100 B.C to 100 A.D. Polychrome, anthropomorphic with lateral spouted stirrup. Heavily stylized Mochica head with tattoos or painted face. Most likely generic with regards to personage and not a true portrait vessel as common in later phases. Black paint around eyes narrowing and sweeping back beneath hairline. Eyebrows inflected but unpainted incised striations over each eye. Soft light brown face and head-cover with delineating cream lines at edges and front to back design on top and sides converging rearward to center and downward to bottom back of head-cover Eyes and mouth concise in relief. Nose well defined with cream stripe painted from top of bridge extending downward to base of chin. Cream stripe also at cheek bone level on both sides from nose to limit of hairline. Black stripe at mid cheek on both sides extending rearward from blackened chin. Full bent legs in relief with feet and knees protruding from beneath chin typifying Phase I and II head vessel. Private East coast collection of pre 1967. Excellent condition. Very slight paint loss at right eye pupil. 9.75 inches/24.8 cm tall "
