Moche III-IV, Ca A.D. 400 - 600, anthropomorphic, zoomorphic rattling, large flaring bowl. Measuring 11.75 inches in diameter by 7 inches tall. Elaborately portraying in chocolate fine line style, on cream, a Mochica fisherman catching a mythological sea creature, perhaps reflective of the Moche Strombus Monster, with the body of a fish and the head of a dragon having both arms and legs. The creature appears to be grasping a kero. The complex design includes seals, anemones, fish, jelly fish, starfish and bird. The fisherman is wearing a two headed snake belt. The outside of the base has repeating circle patterns. Excellent condition with a tiny rim chip and another extremely small chip on base.
