A wonderfully hand made Zitan brush pot, this treasure of the scholar has all the features of an 18th century masterpiece. The body has a slight curved waist. The top and bottom ridges were hand chiseled. Of the three types of Zitan, this is the rarest type, as it is evident that it comes from the India species. The grain is so fine that it was difficult to photograph, but it has all the features that one would expect to find in the finest Zitan. There is an age crack on one side, condition is considered excellent with no chips. The wood is dense and heavy, and has a well aged patina. It measures 5.5 inches high and 5 inches across.
