approx. 18cm in height, 6cm in width (7.08in, 2.36in)
Well-smoothened and mature wooden portable sutra container of Shugendo mountain ascetic, from Ehime region in the island of Shikoku, specifically Mount Ishizuchi (an ashram of Shugendo) probably, considered by its provenance.
Somehow or necessarily suggestable shape as austere and simplified icon (figure) of syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism, dated back to around Mid Edo period, 18th century at least and much earlier possibly.
Fine antique condition as seen, with practical opening and shutting. Extremely rare hidden piece existing today.
