A fine and large sculpture of a deity touching his beard with one hand and holding a scepter in the other one. H. 72 cm. (83 cm including the stand). In the back of the figure there is a cavity for offerings. The figure dates from the later part of the Ming Dynasty, ca 16th/early 17th century. It’s in good condition and has remains of the original psinting. It is mounted on a stunning copper laminated stand. Provenance: Lek Gallery, Bsngkok - Private collection Rotterdam.

Made of grey pottery, covered with a white layer of paint, decorated with bright red and black pigments. Figures of this very large size are rare and were only made for royalty and high nobility. The figure was made in two parts, the head was connected with the body by a wooden pin, which is of course now gone and replaced by a carboard roll. Condition: wear to the painting, the figure is covered in soil, traces of plant roots...

A rare and complete group of an ox and carriage in grey pottery with remains of polychrome. China, Tang Dynasty (618-907). The result of the thermoluminescence test by Kotalla is consistent with the dating of this lot. The report is included in the sale. Dimensions: the carriage H. 32 cm, L. 23 cm, the ox H. 18 cm, L. 23 cm. Condition: very good, no visible repairs, although repairs on early pottery are quite common and accepted. The back of the figure has a small cavity which contains a small silk parcel containing offerings. Condition: age wear, old insect infestations, traces of repainting on the base. Provenance: in my private collection since the mid 90’s, bought in Hongkong from Wing Kei Curios, Hollywood Road.
