Carved rosewood (Hongmu) box inlaid with 5 cloisonné panels depicting 5-clawd dragons chasing the flaming pearl. Dimensions 23 x 16,6 x 13 cm. Condition: one hinge soldered, old repair to the back side of the lid. Overall in very good condition. Provenance: Belgian private collection, brought back from China in the early 1920’s by a Belgian missionary.

Museum quality piece. The front decorated with two dragons and the flaming pearl, the back decorated with bats, the standing rim decorated with colorful flower bands, both on the inside and outside. China, 19th century. Dimensions: 22 x 15,5 cm. Condition: excellent. A similar tray can be found in the catalogue of the opium exhibition at Kunsthal Rotterdam (collection F. Bertholet and C. Hoogendoorn) page 177 and 178.(see pictures)
