Lovely tribal bronze, cast in lost wax technique. Dhokra Damar tribes arethe traditional metalsmiths of West Bengal. Here we see the goddess Durga riding a tiger. It was cast in two parts. Total height 81 cm,Width 50 cm. Condition: there is a repair to the left front leg, an attribute is missing in the right hand of Durga. Age: 3rd quarter 20th century.

A very good sized sculpture of Pedanda, a Brahman priest of the highest caste. This is a traditional sculpture, not a piece for tourists. It's made of hard wood, very intricately carved and has a subtle polychrome. H. 51 cm. Condition: expected age wear and a few age cracks. Please refer to the detailed pictures. A similar figure is in the collection of the 'Tropenmuseum' in Amsterdam. Provenance: Belgian private collection.
