By the noted Northwest artist Elton Bennett (1910-1974), a circa early 1970's serigraph print, "Hurrying Feet", featuring sandpipers on the shore, a coastal forest in the background, a luminous light typical of the artist's works filtering over it all. Bennett learned serigraphy at the Portland Museum of Art school in the 1950's. A native of the Olympic Peninsula, the artist was a keen observer of all things Northwest. Today his prints of the shoreline, ocean, and forests are prized by collec...

Thinned oil or possibly water-based casein/tempera on small board painting, 7 1/4" by 5 1/4" framed, signed at lower right by noted American artist Carol Jablonsky (1939-1992). The image is of a young female child, I believe of Native American or Mexican heritage. Jablonsky died at a young age but left behind a large body of work, including prints and original paintings. A collector on askart provided biographical information she had gleaned: "Jablonsky was born in Port Washington, New York in ...

A most interesting Mid-Century, as late as 1980's perhaps, multiple: a so-called "cast stencil", "cast paper", or "relief" print, therefore three dimensional, featuring a grid pattern of elongated shapes, with air brush paint application on the striking blue and red sections, signed at lower right in pencil and numbered 34/250 in pencil at lower left by noted Arkansas-associated artist PAUL MAXWELL (1925-2015). This is typical imagery by the artist and sculptor. The online Encyclopedia of Arkans...

Watercolor on paper painting of an intensely blue-eyed young peasant girl in scarf and country clothing, 16 3/8" by 12 5/8", 23" by 19" as framed, signed lower right in Russian by the noted Russian artist Mikhail Guzhavin (1888-1931). Guzhavin was most associated with the St. Petersburg area, where he was schooled in art. Landscapes and portraits in both oil and watercolor are known. Oils have achieved to the $40,000 level at past Sotheby's sales of Russian art. His life span having been rel...

A serigraph print titled "LOON MOTHER & BROOD", numbered 321/500, pencil signed in the handwriting of arguably Canada's most important indigenous people's artist, Norval Morrisseau (1931-2007). The unframed print, 11" by 15", is currently housed in a clear plastic protective sleeve (as found). It is lightly affixed at three corners to the backing---I chose not to try to remove it. The print is very fresh and clean, though I note a small tear/disturbance in the paper at upper right, appearing ...

A painted metal cut-out of a fish, with the word "BAIT" as if to advertise a bait shop. This has an American antique folk art appearance though I believe these are made in Asia, as decorative objects. Add to your Adirondack style interior; excellent for the second house at the lake. Measures 8" by 20" extreme dimensions. The tail area has cracks in the metal so this is delicate and should be handled carefully.

A vintage study in charcoal of an infant on its back, 12" by 15" (16" by 19" framed), signed at lower right with what appears as "H Collins", and dated adjacent Sept. 14, 1953. I do not see a listed name that would correspond with this name or variants of it. The study is artistic, reminiscent of timeless Italian Renaissance drawings. There is age toning of the paper and some lighter, whitish areas at lower left, above the infant's left arm, and at lower right.

A nicely executed good-sized pastel drawing, 19" by 23" (24" by 28" framed), the subject a fast-looking high-end sailboat off a coastline, manned by a number of figures. I would estimate the age as circa 1960's or 1970's. Framed behind detail-dulling non-glare glass, which was common during those years. Frame shows wear, drawing is in excellent condition. Signature "Mather" is at lower left.

A beautifully painted unframed work by an anonymous talented hand, late 20th century or later, on canvas, 26 1/2" by 22 1/2", featuring an old-country view of house and courtyard in a valley setting. The flickering, spontaneous impressionist brushwork is impressive. Sadly, the artist did not sign the piece. Excellent condition, needing only a frame.

Watercolor and gouache painting of a ship or boat on roiling, stormy seas, circa 1970's, signed at lower left by artist "Andro", whose worn business card remains affixed to the backing. The work measures 23 1/2" x 17" and 25 1/2" by 19" as framed. The apparent zip code on the business card, 91203, I believe, is Glendale, California. The work is loose in the framing, slipping around. Frame is worn and will likely need to be replaced.

NOT A PRINT---Circa 1970 watercolor painting of Notre Dame and the Seine River in central Paris, titled at bottom margin in pencil "Paris--La Seine au Pont Saint Michel", signed at lower left by listed French artist Pierre Eugene Cambier (1914-2000). The work measures 9" by 12 1/2" (16" by 20" framed). Cambier first exhibited at the Salon des Independants in 1948 and in the second half of the century was a noted watercolorist in Paris. This is a typical example of his work. Mat has damp stai...

A modern unsigned painting, likely acrylic, the complex surface obviously worked and re-worked and built up by the artist----the piece, unframed, weighs nearly 9 pounds; that is a lot of paint. The measurements are 30" by 24". Despite the thickness of the paint, that paint appears to be stable. The generally monochromatic colors, bluish-gray/black, reminding of volcanic cindery glass, with other color showing through, should work well in a number of contemporary settings. Could have some age...

An antique truly American painting (not the more common similar-looking English scenes) with feathery tree at left, a few simple wooden houses, distant church steeple, and two tiny central figures, a manageable size at 22" by 30" (29 1/2" by 37 1/2" in the likely original framing), apparently unsigned. This old work came out of a dilapidated local home, having no doubt hung there for decades. When found it had a sheet of glass over the canvas. Despite the protection, over the past 150 or so y...

The work measures 9" by 9 1/2" (image area), and 16 1/2" by 16 1/2" in attractive gold frame. The signature is at lower left, where the print is numbered 494/1250. Condition is excellent, everything clean and fresh. Terpning is likely the most important contemporary western artist. An oil set ...

Poster, offset lithograph, (dots visible under magnification), 1980, issued on the occasion of an exhibition in 1980 of the works of David Hockney, at the Grey Art Gallery, New York University, the imagery after a 1977 painting "Still Life, Taj Hotel, Bombay" by the artist. This unframed work, in shrink wrap laid against or on foamboard (not opened) measures 38" by 27". I believe this to be Baggot #85 in that definitive catalog raisonne of Hockney posters. After an original painting by the famed Surrealist Belgian-born master artist Rene Magritte (1898-1967), is this print, 1970's, titled "L'Ile au Tresor" ("Treasure Island"), numbered in margin at lower left 199/200 and pencil signed there by Georgette Magritte (1901-1986), the artist's wife of many years; stamped ink Magritte signature at lower right. Measurements are 18 1/2" by 24" inside the mat and 26" by 31" as framed. The dream-like imagery, of green shoots emerging from reddish soil patc...

Contemporary or late 20th century watercolor painting of flowering cacti, 14" by 19 1/4" (22" by 28 1/2" in black frame) signed at lower right by artist Anita Zirkle. I do not see biographical information on the artist but she has excelled here, showing her full talent as she creates a close-up (think Georgia O'Keeffe) of yellow flowers on beavertail or similar cacti. Look at the pistils of the blossom---amazing technique by the artist. Condition is excellent. Black frame shows some wear.

By the internationally acclaimed (male) artist Shirl Goedike (born 1923) is this impressive fine watercolor painting of a sun-washed large classic estate mansion, likely in southern France, (conceivably, in Southern California), signed at lower left by the artist and dated 1991. The piece measures 20 1/2" by 28 1/2" inside the mat and 28 1/4" by 35 1/2" as framed. I have not opened the backing to determine a title or firmly establish the geography of the subject. The talented Goedike is a mas...
