This is a print on metal process, the sheet measuring 34" by 28", and the subject being "The Burning Bush". The work was created to celebrate the 1996 opening of the Skirball Cultural Center and Museum in West Los Angeles. The Skirball is known for its focus on American and European Jewish culture. This work is numbered 629/900 on the reverse in marker and is signed at lower right in marker by the artist. Over the years it has not been handled professionally and as a result the metal has corroded in places, especially at bottom; this corrosion is visible in a number of the photos as lighter areas. I believe it possible that certain solvents might be applied to minimize the effect. There is one area on the image where there is some corrosive bubbling, and common rust corrosion can be seen on the reverse, and the extreme edges have a few old metal bends. From a distance all the damage is much less visible. See the net for much more on the artist, who is known for his metal assemblages and collages. A number of museums hold Berlant's work, and original art by him has sold at Sotheby's and Christie's in New York to about $30,000.
