Watercolor on paper, 16 1/4" by 16 1/4" inside the mat (and 27 1/4" by 27 1/4" as framed), signed at lower right by listed, noted Southern California watercolor artist DON FAY. This is a colorful, beautifully executed work, which previously sold for $2000 at a John Moran auction (THIS EXACT PIECE DID). Condition is excellent with vibrant colors and no foxing/fading. The frame is functional and all in all the piece is ready for the wall. The artist himself kindly contacted me after seeing this online, and quite interestingly confirmed to me that the scene is indeed the MALIBU pier, not the Santa Monica pier. He described having painted it from a spot that at the time was still undeveloped but which is now sadly built over. Fay is a listed artist. (This taken from the artist's website): "Don Fay graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts; completed his formal education at the Art Center College of Design and later studied extensively with Robert E. Wood and Sergei Bongart. He now devotes himself to painting and teaching, after a successful career as an illustrator, designer and art director. He is an award-winning artist in both the commercial and fine art fields and has completed several corporate murals in recent years. Notable of his teaching assignments are yearly Sierra seminars in Yosemite and Montecito-Sequoia. He has taught watercolor classes at the college level and is active as a demonstrator and teaching seminars. Don is an associate member of the National Watercolor Society, and an artist member of the California Art Club, and a signature member of the Gold Coast Watercolor Society. Please contact the artist for specific information or regarding commissions. Typical representation has been with: Fireside in Carmel, CA; Starry-Sheets in Irvine, CA; Coriell in Albuquerque; and Pines in Mammoth Lakes, CA. He has had over thirty one man shows and continues to exhibit in galleries and juried exhibitions."
