Oil on canvas of a female dancer in a long, flouncy dress, cheered on by a number of spectators in the background, measuring 32" by 25" and 39" by 32" framed, signed at lower left by noted, well-listed Spanish twentieth century painter FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ SANCHEZ CLEMENT (1893-1968). (His father, born 1861, died 1956, painted in very much the same style, and often I believe the works of the two, similarly signed, are confused). This is a typical work of this artist, the works of whom sell regularly at auction in Europe and America. The painter painted subject matter more typical of the nineteenth century, though he painted squarely in the twentieth. There's wonderful motion in her flowing dress, and the painting exudes energy and happiness. Frame is suited to the work and has evidently been together with it for a long time. The painting is clean, with just a few faults present: a tiny puncture in the "navel" area is quite hard to see, and there are two short abrasions to the paint about an inch long each. At edges and top right there are some areas which appear as white dot fields, which are perhaps frame abrasion or just unexplained light wear. See the net for more information on the artist.
