Oil on canvas, 21" by 26" (26" by 31" as framed), the subject a winter landscape with coniferous trees in the background, a small unfrozen lake completing the scene. This is an impressionistic work by a nicely listed painter, the works of whom appear with frequency at auctions in Finland. I currently do not have a lot of biographical information on the artist, who was, judging from the label on the reverse (see photo), a member of the Society of Finnish Painters. There is a small wikipedia biography, which does not translate well from the Finnish. It mentions that he studied drawing in an art academy in Finland in the 1940s, that he is known for his caricature, landscapes, portraiture, and possibly naive art. The painting's white/blue/gold color scheme is attractive and subtle, and the piece is in excellent wall-ready condition. The frame is also in good condition, with only a few very minor rubs or very small digs.
