Silver stuffing spoon, 12 1/8" in length, the bowl 1 7/8" wide at the widest point, weight close to four ounces on a common postal scale, bearing the marks on the reverse of the noted mid eighteenth century London craftsman JOHN LAMPFERT, who was known to be working in silver from at least 1749. I am an art dealer, so, not experienced with silver. There are a number of stamps in the handle. A kind individual knowledgeable about silver has informed me that the "J.L" indeed stands for John Lampfert; the "lion passant" is the English guarantee mark for sterling; the crowned leopard head is the City of London assay office mark; the last mark, letter, is either an "N" for 1748 or a "U" for 1755; there has been evidently some distortion from the punch process.
