Large oil on canvas, 30" by 36" plus 5" of frame all around, signed at lower right and dated "11" by listed American artist R.A. KISSACK (1878-?). This painting seems to draw some of its inspiration from the famous work of Whistler's Mother..........with the profile view, and the simple background, which consists here of a Japanese style framed print at upper left and a slag glass type early century lamp. The lamp also lends an Arts and Crafts feeling. The artist's works are in a few museums, and his mural work can be viewed in Missouri's state house. Recently, a work of a young girl sold at auction. He does not seem to have been a prolific artist as there seem to be few examples that have come to auction around the country. CONDITION: This work very definitely needs restoration, as there is considerable small flaking and paint loss scattered throughout, and a larger area also needing inpainting. I have tried to take this into account in the pricing. Feel free to call to discuss.
