Watercolor on paper, 13 1/2" by 9 1/2" (and simple frame 1 3/8" wide), unsigned, the subject a hushed redwood forest obviously in Northern California, the sunlight dappling the forest floor, and a slight hint of man's intrusion in the form of a split wood fence or gate. The colors, handling, and subject matter suggest the hand of important early California watercolorist LORENZO P. LATIMER (1857-1941), but Latimer had many students who painted in his style, (including his son), so we cannot be absolutely certain as to the artist that created this. The painting has some condition issues: a 1/3" circular hole at top, a little ragged edge at top edge, and some white spots in the tree trunk right of center, one of them a small hole. A paper restorer could rectify these issues. The work needs to be matted with archival materials and reframed, and after this investment the new owner will have a classic Northern California artwork. Lorenzo P. Latimer was the son of California pioneers and was born in Gold Hill, California, in Placer County. Latimer's works are highly sought after by collectors eager to own one of his views of redwoods, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, or Lake Tahoe region. **ALLOW FOR REFLECTIONS IN GLASS.
