This is a large (29 1/2" by 37", 37" by 44" framed) oil on canvas by the well-listed Spanish artist EMILIA CASTANEDA (also known as Emilia Castaneda MARTINEZ), born in Barcelona in 1943 and still associated with that city. Castaneda studied art and won awards there as early as the 1960's; solo exhibitions of her work began in 1973 and continue to recent years, in numerous European venues, as well as in America. Her work usually features nude women, sometimes portrayed in a discrete, poetic manner, sometimes in more erotic poses, sometimes even in erotic relationships with other women. Lithographs and works on paper were also created by the artist. Paintings sell at auctions in Spain and are offered online to five figures. This painting came from a fine Los Angeles estate.
