Photolithograph print, 16 3/4" by 24 1/2" inside the mat, no title but the subject is a mountain landscape with Native American figures and horses, likely northern New Mexico. The print is signed in the plate with the 1972 date and Cowboy Artists of American symbol, and is pencil signed at lower right, by the well-known western American artist MELVIN CHARLES WARREN (1920-1995). Warren, who went on to become a member of the Cowboy Artists of America, was born in California but seemingly kept moving eastwards through the southwestern states, finally stopping in Texas. Originally he worked in commercial art, dabbling in his own time on western subject matter he knew so well, having grown up on ranches. Eventually he became well known for his talent in the western material. Today his paintings sell well into the five figures or beyond and Warren's name has taken its place among the great contemporary western American artists. Lyndon Johnson was a big collector of his work, many of the paintings residing today in the LBJ Library in Texas. Warren has been included since the 1960's in survey books on American western art, and has appeared in numerous publications such as Southwest Art, Art of the West, and so forth. This print is in excellent condition, with just a little wear noted on the frame. Colors are not faded. Allow for reflections in a few images.
