Oil on board painting of two clipper ships in full sail on the high seas, 21 1/4" by 27" (25" by 31" framed), probably executed circa 1970's to about 1985, signed at lower right by the artist, AUSTIN DWYER of Seattle. There is a website maintained by the artist, with a host of biographical information, and images of works for sale, both original and giclee prints. Dwyer was born in Ireland but became a U.S. citizen. He received art education in the Pacific Northwest, (where he is best known today) and worked there in advertising, marketing and illustration for many years. A past president of the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters, he retired in 2005. Currently he continues to paint and lecture and serve on art juries. Original paintings by Dwyer, who illustrated a forthcoming book on the "great ships", are offered from about $750 for small examples to over $3,000 for more complex pictures. The artist is a member of ASMA (American Society of Marine Artists). The painting is a bit dusty and some of the varnish has browned/yellowed. A light cleaning could be beneficial but the new owner would not have to do this before display.
