**ONE OF TWO EXAMPLES OF THIS PRINT IN MY SHOP, THE SECOND PRINTED IN DIFFERENT COLOR**From the skilled hand of the noted Art Nouveau period painter, illustrator and decorator HENRI BELLERY-DESFONTAINES (1867-1910) comes this well known image "L'Illusion", printed in the year 1897 by F. Champenois in Paris for the popular series "L'Estampe Moderne". The image is a dreamy one, with undertones of male and female sexuality. Note the elegant gray-brown colors and the blue and white highlights. The artist (an entire website is dedicated to his life and work) studied in the ateliers of Bouguereau, Jean-Paul Laurens, and Luc-Olivier Merson. In his short life he was creatively nourished by the rich artistic atmosphere of Paris and by movements such as Symbolism. Many posters, illustrations, paintings, even tapestries and decorated furniture are available to us today, over a century after his death. See the net for much more information on the artist. This example measures 9 1/2" by 12 1/2" inside the blue mat and 15" by 17" as framed. I've opened this up and note that it evidently was sold at one point in England, with a description of it and price in Pounds written in chalk (see image). There is a blindstamp as shown, as well, in the corner. Condition is good overall, with a very small paper dig (appears as white stain) as shown in lower left margin and even paper oxidation (browning), and a foxing spot at upper left. COMPARE TO ANOTHER EXAMPLE IN MY SHOP, THAT ONE IN PREDOMINANT BLUE COLOR; the pair would be interesting, displayed side by side.
