Oil on canvas painting of a woman in a verdant landscape, 30" by 24", unframed, titled on the stretcher "NUDE HOLDING FLOWERS", and also signed there, "by Greg Harris 1981 Feb.". This is a quite early work by an artist now firmly established in the contemporary impressionist art scene nationally, GREGORY FRANK HARRIS (1953-). Harris was born in Southern California to parents that included a painter mother. He showed precocity in art and music and other creative pursuits, and by 1977 was beginning to copy the French Impressionists and the Old Masters. Harris became established in the gallery scene between 1982 and 1996. He has moved around the country, to Duxbury, Massachusetts, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Lyme, Connecticut, and currently Vermont. The prestigious Rehs Gallery of New York, which handles historical artists, the likes of Bouguereau and Daniel Ridgway Knight, handles works by Harris currently. The artist's more recent works often feature multiple figures in outdoor, sunny settings. This painting certainly reminds of the work of Renoir---the soft handling of the facial features, the coloring of the torso, the hands and flowers. Condition is excellent save for just a few light abrasions at upper left and at right center (see images). These can be easily fixed up by restoration.
