Fine antique copper engraving map of Asia from the eastern Mediterranean to the western Pacific, with hand coloring, by Dutch cartographers Gerardo and Leonardo Valk, circa 1710. The map measures 20" by 24" and is laid down to a board as is often seen. Margins are adequate. The map is I believe in overall good condition for a collector looking for a display item, though there are condition issues to be noted, such as some foxing, discoloration, margin wear, stubbed corner, a slight abraded area below "ASIA", and other faults that can be expected of a work on paper that is 300 years old. There is presently no glass and an inexpensive strip frame. Note the fine detail in the lower left corner, featuring a smorgasbord of images people of the time associated with exotic Asia........people of color, exotic birds, a camel, a turtle, an ape, palms............The hand color is not present in all areas but where it is present it is rich and pleasing. See other maps in my shop and a large inventory of paintings, drawings and prints.
