Original mixed media (appears to be gouache, and reflective silver and gold paints, on paper) drawing, the subject two figures relaxing at a summery beach, a sunfish small boat off the beach, all bordered by a decorative modernist border with innumerable artistic shapes and unexplained elements. The drawing measures 8" by 10 3/4" (13 3/4" by 18 3/4" in metal frame---glass cracked at lower left and will need to be replaced). The artist, RAFAEL RILA (1907-1993) signed within the image, in white, at lower center right, in both English and Hebrew, and dated the work there 1975. Rila was born in Yugoslavia and emigrated to Israel in 1939. He was educated at Vienna University, and in Paris and Manchester, England. A member of the Israel Painters and Sculptors Association, Rila received a gold medal for his work in 1972 in Milan. This is a very complex little work for its size and represents an unbelievable amount of time and effort on the part of the artist.
