Large opaque watercolor (gouache) of the historic, now highly desirable residential neighborhood known as Corinthian Island, near downtown Tiburon, California, across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, signed at lower left by artist A. Simmons, and likely created circa 1960's or 1970's. The work measures 21" by 28 1/2" inside the mat and 30" by 37" nicely framed. The words "Corinthian Hill" are written on the frame, but I did not need to see this to recognize a familiar sight, having lived in Marin County for 17 years. Compare to images on google of this hillside. Corinthian Island was originally a true island, known as Valentine's Island, after an early San Francisco businessman. In the early years of the 20th century, swampy land was filled in, and a drawbridge to the island was no longer required. The land was divided into parcels and luxury homes were built. A century later, the enclave is one of the Bay Area's most luxurious and desirable places to live, with homes into eight figures and spectacular views of Belvedere, the skyline of San Francisco across the bay, and maybe even the Golden Gate Bridge from some properties. I do not recognize the artist name. All photos were taken through detail-dulling non-glare glass, which I suggest discarding before shipping is undertaken.
