Oil on Masonite painting of a shady corridor or breezeway in an old traditional colonial era building, signed at lower left in the paint by listed Mexican artist EDUARDO VILLANUEVA. On the reverse is written "combento de Huejotzingo/Eduardo Villanueva/Pueblo 30 de agosto de 1957/Barrio del artista Estado (?)/Mexico". This would appear to be the convento de Huejotzingo, a colonial building in a small town northwest of Puebla. The Franciscan convento is fully named Convento de San Miguel Arcangel and dates to Spanish times. The impressionist work in subdued colors is nicely handled; the interesting simple natural wood frame bordered in black paint is also subdued and complementary. Villanueva painted landscapes around Mexico City and Puebla in the second half of the century, but there does not appear to be much biographical information. Some works have been offered at auction in Mexico City. Measurements are 20" by 16" and 25" by 22" as framed.
