A lithograph of the year 1953, pencil signed at lower right margin, by the noted 20th century American artist WILLIAM GROPPER (1897-1977). The work is presently unframed, housed inside a mat that lifts up (taped at top corners). Gropper, as the accompanying original Associated American Artists label describes, was born in New York and remained there. He studied under Robert Henri, George Bellows, and Giles. Paintings by the artist are included in American and international collections, with murals in public buildings across the nation. He authored and illustrated a number of books. The print is generally clean but at top and bottom, as photos indicated, there is some rippling/puckering and a moderate crease at bottom margin, all perhaps evidence of past storage in a moist environment.
