Original acrylic on canvas painting, 18" by 13 1/2", unframed, by the noted Central Australian aboriginal artist JUNE BIRD NGALE (born c. 1954). The painting is titled on an original 1992 label of Utopia Art, Sydney, "Bush Tucker" (tucker is the Australian word for food). The label is affixed to the canvas and "June Bird" is written in pencil on the stretcher. We seem to be looking at some kind of bush or plant which would presumably have provided that food. June Bird as she is most commonly known is the daughter of noted aboriginal painter Ada Bird Petyarre (1921-2010) (a large example of her work is currently available in my shop). June's work is said to take strongly after that of her mother. Her father was also a noted aboriginal artist. The family is from the Mulga Bore, Waite River area of the Northern Territory, an area with a rich Dreamtime artistic tradition. June Bird began painting in 1987. Her works are included in the collection of the University of Queensland and the National Gallery in Canberra.
