A nicely executed Italian antique pencil and watercolor drawing of classical temple ruins (Doric capitals) with figures, 11 1/2" by 9", in an interesting 19th century frame measuring 15 1/2" by 13". The work appears unsigned, though there is a "G.F." in a rectangle at lower right......likely a collector stamp. On the reverse is written in Italian "rosso matlorio/pass e conire" or similar; also in ink below that, a dedication in Italian: "Alla cara Fra. Virginia ni ricordo di mi Padre Adele Labassinide Fabriz" (to dear Fra. Virginia in memory of my father....). The style looks like 18th century but the later wove style paper puts it squarely in the 19th. No watermark. There are several light creases in the corners, old tape residue on reverse and other minor faults. Currently loose inside the framing; needs to be remounted, with acid-free materials.
