Coastal watercolor and gouache painting, the scene likely of the New England shoreline, perhaps near Boston, waves breaking on a beach with rocky outcroppings, signed at lower right corner by artist SHARP. The painted area of the work measures 6" by 12", the sheet on which it is painted 8 3/4" by 14 3/4". The painted area is not a separate sheet laid down to a backing----it is all one sheet. There is staining of the left margin area but this is not of importance since freshly matted with archival materials, this would all be hidden. The painted area itself is in excellent fresh condition. Note the offshore sailing craft on the horizon. The name being common, it is difficult to pinpoint the artist, who was obviously talented. An 1890's or 1900 date would likely be fairly accurate.
