A very interesting carved and gilded wood panel, found here in Southern California, origin unknown. There are remaining traces of gilding and to a lesser extent, possibly polychrome paint. I have found no writing/labels, and frustratingly, there is no further information traveling with it. The piece measures 15" by 32". I am wondering if it might be of American origin, although in my mind I think it could be French. The wood seems to be pine. The original old distressed, weathered surfaces are charmingly antique. The panel could find a new home in a number of traditional and elegant historic house settings.
