A still life on board, of fruit on a green table cloth with white pitcher, unframed, 12" by 16", signed in the wet paint by listed Connecticut woman artist SUSAN GRISELL (1946-). The work is in excellent condition, and needs just a (standard size, easy to find) frame. Grisell is a New Milford, Connecticut native and has lived her life mostly in Litchfield County in the scenic northwestern part of the state. The area has a rich artistic history, having attracted painters since the 19th century. At age 13 Grisell proclaimed her desire to be an artist and she has certainly followed through on the pledge. She had a great uncle who was a sculptor and she claims a distant cousinship with famous American artist William Merritt Chase. Grisell studied with noted impressionist Bernard Lennon. She paints landscape and still life, in a beautiful impressionist hand. Many of the landscapes are of Connecticut scenes in the four seasons, but she also paints while on trips to Europe, Florida and the American West. See her most informative website, which features dozens of her other paintings.
