A finely worked sepia ink drawing of a Paris street scene, titled at top "Eglise et Seminaire St. Nicolas du Chardonnet", signed at lower right "Delaunay" and dated there 1867. The 6 1/2" by 7 1/2" drawing (11" by 13 1/4" as framed) features a Roman Catholic church in the fifth Arrondissement, on the south bank of the Seine, sometimes known as the Latin Quarter. The Pantheon and Sorbonne are located in this district, south of Notre Dame. There are a number of artists by the common French name Delaunay; the artist could be Jules Elie Delaunay (1828-1891), or Jules Delaunay (1845-1906). Condition is excellent, the work could benefit from a professional mat job as the existing poorly sized one leaves something to be desired, with space visible at top and bottom.
