A PAIR of original glossy black and white photos of actors HURD HATFIELD (1917-1998) and GENE NELSON (1920-1996), circa 1940's, both autographed and inscribed to an as yet unidentified "Wilson", which is the principal reason why I have decided to sell them together (they are also identical sizes and identically framed and matted). The Hatfield has the following inscription at left: "For Wilson--with admiration for his dancing---In friendship--Yours, Hurd Hatfield". The Gene Nelson in green ink has the inscription at upper left: "To Wilson--Hope we do many pictures together/Gene Nelson". Both actors were young at that time. The works measure 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" inside the mats and 14 1/2" by 11 1/2" framed. The Hatfield has numerous creases and wrinkles, which I have tried to show in some of the images. The Gene Nelson has some rippling and creasing but not nearly to the degree seen on the Hatfield. The writing in blue-green ink on the Nelson is clear, the writing on the Hatfield somewhat less so, The Nelson has a stamp on the back from the noted Hollywood photographer of the famous, Bert Six. It is possible that both are by Six, but only the one bears the stamp. More photos upon request; it is difficult to fully illustrate condition etc. in nine total permitted images.
