An old etching of Notre Dame cathedral in central Paris, viewed from the south bank of the Seine river, titled at bottom "Pont de l'Archeveche Paris", artist name K. Gautier (LUCIEN GAUTIER, 1850-1925) at lower left margin. The print measures 9 3/4" by 14 3/4" (13" by 18" in silvery metal framing). There are some fox marks in the field and typical browning/light soiling seen on an antique print; also a slight bit of raising of the paper surface at extreme right corner. There does not seem to be much biographical information on Gautier, who executed watercolors, prints and more rarely, oils, the subject matter commonly central Paris. The cathedral was nearly lost to humanity in the tragic fire of April 15, 2019. It was largely saved and will be undergoing extensive, delicate, time-consuming repairs for years to come. It took the near loss of this building to reveal how loved and cherished it is by people the world over. Allow for reflections in several images.
