Old oil on canvas laid on board landscape painting of a steep-sided canyon, framed by tall foreground trees, the work signed at very bottom left center (hidden by frame) "H. Baumgartner". Measurements are 16" by 12" and 18 1/2" by 14 1/2" in old wood framing. I would guess the age as circa 1930's or 1940's. While there are German artists that would correspond to this name, their work is unlike this piece. It was found here in Los Angeles, so this could well be a California painting by an artist with a German surname. Condition is vintage good. There is a slight modernist touch to the handling of the canyon, which adds to the interest.
