A small oil on canvas board painting of Lake Como, Italy, signed at lower right by California listed artist LUCY SCHNABEL (1844-1938). The work measures 10" by 14" and is unframed. The view is of famously scenic Lake Como in northern Italy, with snow capped peaks in the distance. A few figures are present in the foreground, and the architecture along the lake shore fills the middle. The artist was born in Wisconsin and was in San Francisco by about 1860. She exhibited at the San Francisco Art Association in 1876. Marrying, she moved to Berchtesgaden, Germany by 1887. This likely dates to her European period; circa 1915 to 1935 or so would be a guess as to the painting's age. It needs a general cleaning, and some touch-up for the 1 1/2" disturbed area at top, as well as, possibly, the edge losses at extreme bottom from old frame abrasion.
