A pencil drawing (and touches of white gouache) of the scenery with figures in a small rowboat, around the northeastern end of New York State's Lake George, notably the prominent "Anthony's Nose" feature, dated 1840 at lower right and titled there "L. George". There is no artist signature. This is an exceptionally early work and it would be interesting to know the identity of the artist. This would be around the time of early Hudson River School artists Thomas Cole, Jasper Cropsey, Victor de Grailly, Asher B. Durand, and so many others of note. Condition is excellent considering the age and the fact that it is unframed. There is a slight old damp stain area at center right. Frame and preserve this old treasure. Measurements 7" by 10", the drawing is lightly affixed with adhesive spots at center and top edge to an old gray paper sheet which evidently came from a book or ledger.
