Oil on canvas, 22" by 18 1/2", unframed, the subject a vase of colorful flowers painted in a highly impressionistic manner. The painting is signed at lower right center with the notoriously difficult to decipher signature of the artist HENRI d'ANTY (1910-1998). The age would appear to be circa late 1950's or early 1960's. D'Anty was born in France and painted scenes in Brittany, northern France, and along the banks of the Marne River. He is known for his vigorous paintings rich with color, brushstrokes and paint. Some might be called impressionist, some have a more expressionist appearance. Today he is classified within the ranks of the "School of Paris" artists. A prolific painter, works appear often at auction in Europe and America. This is one of several d'Anty works I am offering in my shop. Condition: there is a small strip of missing paint at extreme lower left edge, where past framing caused paint loss (this was framed when found, but the frame was in a dilapidated, unrestorable condition so it was discarded). This area will be hidden by new framing. Otherwise the condition is excellent.
