A lithograph, featuring trees aned dwellings near railroad tracks, pencil signed "HELEN NOEL EST." at lower right, unframed, 11 1/2" by 17 1/2". The artist is HELEN JEANETTE NOEL SHAGAM (1912-1989) of Illinois. The artist was active in the Chicago area at midcentury, with many works dating from late 1930's through the 1940's and 1950's in a Social Realist or American Scene WPA style reminiscent at times of Reginald Marsh, Edward Hopper or Martin Lewis; row houses and their side yards, workers, and people in urban environments were preferred subject matter. She was a ceramicist, illustrator, painter in oil and watercolor, and sculptor. Noel trained at the Art Institute of Chicago and exhibited around the Chicago area until at least the 1960's. This print was evidently signed by the estate, after her 1989 death in Wilmette, Illinois. All photos taken with the print as it was found, shrink-wrapped and unframed. Any apparent soiling is on the outside of the shrink-wrap and not on the print itself.
