A very well-painted mid 20th century copy of the famous 1864 HONORE DAUMIER (1808-1879) painting of two Moliere play characters, "Crespin et Scapin", (sometimes known as "Crespin et Silvestre"), that original now hanging in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. This work, painted on the smooth side of a pressed wood panel, measures 22" by 31" (26" by 34 1/2" as framed). The current painting is very faithful to that original work. The image remains highly popular today, with many posters and other reproductions of it sold. The monochromatic and subtle palette will work with many Minimalist interiors. Condition is excellent; wood frame has significant losses in several locations. Purchased out of a high-end Santa Monica estate.
