A beautiful fresh example of a 1969 poster featuring the work of famed Mexican artist RUFINO TAMAYO (1899-1991), **HAND SIGNED** by the artist in ballpoint pen at lower left just above the white "Tamayo". The poster commemorates one of many exhibitions of the artist's work at the well-known Bernard Lewin Galleries in Palm Springs and Beverly Hills, California. Tamayo and Lewin had a longtime business relationship, Lewin promoting Tamayo tirelessly. Tamayo has come to be known for his figurative abstraction, tinged with Surrealism. His highest price at auction is over $7 million, placing him among the most important Latin American artists. He was born in Oaxaca in southern Mexico of Zapotec mestizo heritage, which he claimed influenced his work. Showing early talent, he was enrolled at art school in Mexico City by 1917. When political issues stifled his freedom he moved to New York City in 1926, meeting there many famous artists and improving his abilities while gaining gallery exposure. In 1949 he moved again, to Paris, for a time. Tamayo is known for his "Mixografia" three dimensional prints. This poster is in flaming orange-red color and is not sun-faded. Glass is cracked at extreme lower left corner; may wish to ship without glass, packed flat, or possibly rolled in tube, depending on buyer's framing decisions. Frame currently is gold metallic. Measurements as framed 34" by 24 1/2".
