Neanderthal partial biface multi-tool, flint, height 5 1/4". Excellent condition with fine, variegated patina. Large and very boldly constructed tool, with a prominent burin. This is a bit difficult to classify, but was obviously a multi-tool with a wide variety of functions. Given its size and weight I would imagine it was used to score and crack open large bones to extract bone marrow, an important source of iron at the time. Dates to 80,000-50,000 BCE. From the Grand-Pressigny region, France.
