Two lovely Neanderthal convergent scrapers with burins. Fontmaure, France, jasper, heights 2 1/4" and 2 1/2". Excellent condition with no modern damage. Purchased at auction with no collection data. "Convergent" scraper refers to the worked scraper edges converging on a point, usually but not always resulting in a burin. The burin was an important tool during the Paleolithic as it was frequently employed to score bones and obtain bone marrow, a vital source of iron. Dating to approximately 50,000 BCE.
