A fabulous Mode 1 pebble tool on a flint nodule from Grand Pressigny, France (found in an ancient dried channel of the Creuse River). Legal surface find in excellent condition with a fabulous ground patina. Height 4". This is a beautiful and rare example of an Oldowan Mode 1 pebble tool. created summarily with a minimum of flake removals, it takes good advantage of the natural ergonomic properties of the pebble to be useful as a chopper on several surfaces. Beautiful sculptural presence. Made by Heidelberg Man, dates to 850,000-650,000 BCE.
