Four Neanderthal multi-tools on flakes. Chert and jasper, heights between 2" and 2 3/8". All in excellent condition, legal excavation finds, Marbach, Germany. All four represent variations on the basic Neanderthal scraper multi-tool, each with a variety of differently refined edges to best serve different purposes on a single tool that would be light to transport. The tool on the left in the photo is somewhat thicker than the others, and has one edge flaked to form a lovely, slightly concave abrupt scraper. All four are functionally very effective lithics. Date to approximately 80,000-50,000 BCE.
