A group of three Neanderthal blades/multi-tools on levallois flakes. All three are jasper, in excellent condition with glossy ground patinas, from Fontmaure, France. Heights between 2 1/2" and 2 3/4". Legal surface finds. The tool to the left is a single edge straight scraper, very well defined, with a truncation at the distal end. The other two lithics are complex multi-tools which take advantage of the entire edge of each flake, giving a variety of scraper edges, notches, and burin tips. Fascinating and highly sophisticated tool-making. Date to approximately 80,000-50,000 BCE.
