A nice repousse silver box from Burma. A beautiful carving of a bust of a woman on the lid. A leaf design surrounding the body of the box. Size: H: 7cm. W. 7.7cm. Condition. Very fine. No repairs.

An ornate silver betel box with open-work patterns of curling tendrils. The body and lid each have five panels with high relief work depicting 10 different scenes of ancient Burma. The top of the domed lid has a lotus blossom. The bottom is hammered with the date and occasion for the piece.

Period: Early 1900's.

A seated figure covering his eyes with both hands used in Tantric Buddhism believed to provide supernatural powers. and is a doctrine of enlightenment as the realization of the oneness of one's self and the visible world; combines elements of Hinduism and paganism including magical and mystical elements like mantras and mudras and erotic rites; especially influential in Tibet. A rare stucco sculpture which originally had three heads on this Deity, two are remaining and part of a third one remains. This type of Diety had it's influence from the Gandhara also was a jewel of Buddhist civilization. Scholars of Gandhara traveled east to India and China and were influential in the development of early Mahayana Buddhism. Size with stand. H. 23.3cm. W. 15 cm.
