A rare Ironwood (Tieli) clapper with three beautiful pieces. The two inner clappers are tied together for sound. The sound of the wooden clappers sets the rhythm of the music as well as some of the actions of the performers. Age: 19th century. Size:L.27cm. Width at the widest point is 2.5cm. Condition: No repairs. Normal wear.

An authentic Tang pottery horse and rider who is holding some kind of musical instrument. The horse and rider are covered with the remaining white slip that all original Tang pottery should have. A rare huanghuali wood Chinese "violin" called an erhu. The main body and neck are carved from a single piece of huanghuali wood, its top stretched with snake skin of beautiful patterning. The bottom of the main body has a sound hole with an openwork carving of a stylized "shou" character meaning longevity (this bottom panel is a separate piece of wood). A boxwood carving of a dragon wraps around the end of the huanghuali fingerboard - it's mouth open and holding a moving glass ball of a blue...
