This porcelain plate was produced in Germany by Meissen in the 1880s. It has the first quality, underglaze crossed swords mark with pommels. The plate is made of the finest quality hard paste porcelain ever produced in the Western Hemisphere. It measures 9 ½ inches in diameter. The reticulated border is cut out by hand. The center of the plate has a hand painted scene of Galileo reading a book and inventing the geometric compass. The painting is after the artist Byieu, Dutch master. The cobalt blue border is accented with ornate gilding. The precision and detail of this painting is only matched by work done at the KPM Royal Berlin Factory. It has a photographic quality about it. This set of 8 porcelain plates was produced in England by Minton in 1863. The name Minton is impressed with date ciphers indicating this year. The plates measure 9 ½ inches in diameter. They are made of fine, white bone china. The reticulated borders around the plates are 1 ¾ wide. They are outlined in heavy celeste blue enamel known as French enamel. There are 3 cartouches in the borders containing colorful sprays of hand painted flowers. Similar flower sprays accent the centers of the plates. There are hand gilded accents and they have gilded rims. The process of producing French enamel items was labor intensive and costly. The design was taken from work done at the Royal Sevres Manufacturer using their signature celeste blue color. Condition: There are some minor scratches in the white surface from use. There are no other flaws.

This set of 12 plates was produced in France in the mid 19th century. They are marked with the underglaze Sevres markings but were probably made by a Paris decorator. Each plate is artist signed. They are 9 3/8 inches in diameter. They are made of soft paste porcelain. The set is elaborately hand painted. The center of each place has a different Watteau scene. The style of painting is romantic, soft and dreamy. The borders have etched cartouches and gilding. Delicate and colorful flowers fill the reserves. Garlands of tiny roses drape around the borders. Nearly the whole surface of each plate is covered with decoration. These plates show expert artistry and extraordinary beauty. Condition: There are minor surface scratches.

The vase is 8 inches high and 3 inches across the top. It is made of fine bone china. It has a pedestal foot and scrolled handles. The flower painting is exquisitely detailed. The colors are vibrant. A bouquet is in the center of a frame of roses. There is a different bouquet on the other side. Swags of ivy leaves drape down from the shoulder of the vase. The mouth of the vase and pedestal foot have hand gilded details. A single turquoise bead or jewel accents the design on each side. This is a charming, and romantic cabinet piece. Condition: There is some light, clean crazing to the glaze that does not affect the beauty of the piece.

This porcelain vase was produced in England by Royal Worcester in the 1870s. The date letters in the mark are illegible so it is not possible to specify the exact year. The vase is 7 3/8 inches high. The base measures 5 inches long by 4 5/8 inches wide. The form of this vase is known as “elephant tusk” as it appears to be carved ivory. It also appears to be two separate pieces, the vase on a stand, but is actually one. The vase is made in two layers with the second layer having been cut out. The design of herons surrounded by trees is a creation inspired by the Japanese culture. The birds are hand painted with metallic colors. There are gilded accents and other hand painted details. The base has a wooden effect with molded designs highlighted in gold. This is a marvelous example of Worcester’s Aesthetic design. Condition: Excellent

This porcelain tea cup and saucer was produced in England by Brown, Westhead & Moore in the 1890s. It is a transitional set, just before the company became Cauldon. It was made especially for Gilman and Collamore of New York. The porcelain is extra fine and has molded swirls in the body. The decoration of tiny corn flower garlands is hand painted. Garlands of gilded leaves entwine with the corn flowers creating a delicate pattern. Tiny sprigs dot the outside of the cup. The scalloped borders, the gilded trim and fine porcelain make this a delightful cup and saucer. Condition: Excellent

This porcelain chocolate cup and saucer was produced in Germany by the Richard Klemm Dresden Studio in the 1890s. The saucer measures 6 inches in diameter and the cup is 4 inches high. The cup has a pedestal base and the saucer is contoured with a raised well in the center. The saucer is a platform for the cup. The ground color is blue green. There are tiny pink rose garlands around the saucer and cup. The front of the cup has a reserve containing a portrait of Queen Louise of Prussia who lived in the 1700s. There is a shiny gold frame around the portrait. The green ground is accented with raised gilding giving texture to those areas. I have heard this treatment referred to as “tree bark”. The rims and handle are all heavily gilded. The workmanship is very similar to pieces from Royal Vienna. Condition : Excellent

There is a reserve on the front of the cup containing a hand painted scene. There is a winged cherub and a fairy. The cherub is writing on a tablet. They are both sitting on a cloud. The scene is surrounded by elaborate hand gilding that is raised and beaded. The saucer has matching gilding and just one little flower in the well. The interior of the cup, handle and rims are trimmed with rich gold. Condition: Excellent

It gives the set an antique effect. Condition: Except for a bit of crazing on the bottom of the saucer, invisible to the naked eye, this set is in excellent condition.
